These are the requirements your system should meet before using PDS. Your performance will also vary based on hardware configurations, network traffic, and local workstation settings. These requirements apply to all PDS products.

Printers

We recommend using a tray-fed laser printer. Our software is compatible with laser and inkjet printers, if driver support is available for the associated operating system. We do not recommend specific printers, nor do we guarantee that all printers will work with our software.

Scanners

  • We recommend using only scanners purchased from ACS Technologies.
  • The MICR Image Reader works only with the desktop version of ACS, and the Windows® 8 drivers for this check scanner are not yet available.

Video and Sound Cards

We require at least 32 MB of video memory.

For all modules, we recommend a 17-inch monitor, which are designed at 96 dpi. Wide screen monitors may cause modules to look different than they do on a 17-inch monitor, unless dpi settings are modified.

Internet Considerations & Browsers

As PDS moves more of our products and services to the Web, we recommend a high speed Internet connection. While an Internet connection is not required for using the basic features of the PDS desktop products, some features are not available without an Internet connection. These features include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Downloading product upgrades and revisions
  • Downloading tax updates
  • Uploading information to the diocese
  • Some documentation

PDS requires installation of Internet Explorer® 8.0 or later to view Help topics in PDS. However, Internet Explorer is not required to be the default browser.

Network Requirements

PDS can be installed and operated on a dedicated server, a terminal server, or on a peer-to-peer network. We do not recommend Internet-based servers, nor do we support them.

Wireless Networks

PDS programs can function properly in a wireless network environment. However, due to the wide variance of connection speeds, the performance and reliability of the PDS software can be negatively affected.

Microsoft End-of-Life

ACS and PDS adhere to Microsoft's life-cycle policy for operating systems. As a system approaches its end-of-life date, ACS and PDS recommend upgrading your operating system. Once an operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft, we can no longer support that system. This does not mean that products will not work on a retired operating system, but it does mean that, should a problem occur that would require an update for a retired operating system, we cannot provide support assistance for clients using those operating systems.

My rectory uses Apple computers---- we are networked. Are any of your products compatible with Apple computers?

    1. Aug 01, 2012

Hello Msgr. Baddick, Thank you for your inquiry. Our products do require Microsoft® Windows® to run, but some effective options are available that enable Mac® users to run PDS software. One option is for you to use Apple’s Boot Camp® application program to select either OS X® or Windows each time you turn on your computer. Or, you can use a program called Parallels Desktop® 7 for Mac to run Windows in a virtualized environment. Then you can install the PDS program to your Windows environment. Both options require you to purchase a Windows license for your Mac computer.

A third option is for you to have your PDS programs hosted through PDS OnDemand which enables you to perform all the functions of your PDS desktop software over the Internet. We also provide a free Mac client for PDS OnDemand users. I hope this information helps you, and I thank you again for contacting us.

We are also using Apple computers in our ministry.  Is there a chance that a desktop version of the software will be made Mac-compatible?
