The MICR Image Check Reader can scan your contribution checks, save the check images and attach them to your contributors' records. You can also scan your accounts receivable checks when adding payments. 

(tick) The MICR Image Check Reader is compatible with ACS desktop but is not compatible with ACS OnDemand.

(error) The MICR Image Check Reader is still supported by ACS Technologies but is no longer available for purchase. The ImageSafe Check Reader will be available with ACS 11.7.1.17.

Installing the MICRImage Reader

Caution

Do not place the MICRImage Reader on top of your computer, or within six inches of a computer monitor or power supply. Your computer, monitor, or power supply may interfere with check scanner operation.

In order to use the MICRImage Reader you must connect the scanner and then install the MICRbase program.

Connecting the Scanner

Before you begin, have your network administrator set up administrative rights on your workstation.

 To connect the scanner using the MICRImage USB adapter
  1. Contact Support to get the USB driver for your scanner, the DPInst.exe. Double-click the file to run it.
    1. ACS, HeadMaster, Realm, The City support - 1-800-669-2509.
    2. PDS support - 1-800-877-737-4457
  2. You also need the OCX_Install.exe from Support. Double-click the file to run it.
  3. Plug in the check scanner and connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. In the Start menu, depending on your operating system, right-click on My Computer or Computer.
  6. Click Properties. Under the Control Panel Home section, click Device Manager. (warning) Note: Windows XP users, click the Hardware tab, then Device Manager.
  7. Expand Ports.
  8. Right-click the MICR Image (COM) port, then click Properties.
  9. Click the Properties tab. Set the Receive Buffer Size (Bytes) and Transmit Buffer Size (Bytes) to 1024.
 To connect the scanner using the MICRImage USB adapter on a Windows 8 operating system
  1. Contact Support to get the USB driver for your scanner, the DPInst.exe. Double-click the file to run it. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    1. ACS, HeadMaster, Realm, The City support - 1-800-669-2509.
    2. PDS support - 1-800-877-737-4457
  2. You also need the setup.exe from Support. Double-click the file to run it. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  3. Plug in the check scanner and connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
  4. Click Settings > Control Panel > Device Manager.
  5. Under Other Devices, right-click on MicrImage then click Properties.
  6. Click the Driver tab, and click Update Driver.
  7. Click Browse My Computer and select the path: C:\Program Files (x86)\MagTek.
  8. Click Next, then Close.
  9. Click the Properties tab. Set the Receive Buffer Size and Transmit Buffer Size to 1024.

Disabling the Suspend Setting

There may be instances when a computer does not recognize the check scanner, even though it is connected to the USB port. To correct this, disable the suspend setting on the USB port so it does not hibernate.

 To disable the suspend setting on the USB port - Windows 8.1
  1. On the Windows desktop, click the Start button  in the lower-left corner of the screen. The Start window displays.
  2. Click the arrow button . The Apps view displays.
  3. Click Control Panel.
  4. If your Control Panel is set to Category view, click Hardware and Sound > Power Options. If your Control Panel is set to small or large icons, click Power Options.
  5. Under your selected Preferred plan, click Change plan settings.
  6. Click Change advanced power settings.
  7. Expand USB Settings.
  8. Expand USB selective suspend setting.
  9. When you highlight Setting, a drop down-list displays. Click Disabled.
  10. Click Apply > OK.

Connecting the Scanner Using the Serial Connection

 To connect the scanner using the MICRImage Serial connection
  1. Contact Support at 1-800-669-2509 to get the OCX_Install.exe. Run the install.
    1. ACS, HeadMaster, Realm, The City support - 1-800-669-2509.
    2. PDS support - 1-800-877-737-4457
  2. Plug in the check scanner and connect it to your computer using the USB cable.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. In the Start menu, right-click on My Computer or Computer, depending on your operating system.
  5. Click Properties. Under the Control Panel Home section, click Device Manager. (warning) Note: Windows XP users, click on the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button.
  6. Expand Ports.
  7. Right-click the MICR Image Serial Communications (COM) Port, then click Properties.
  8. Click the Port Settings tab.
  9. Select the following settings: Bits per second: 115200, Data bits: 8, Parity: None, Stop Bits: 1, Flow control: Xon/Xoff.
  10. Click Advanced.
  11. Select Use FIFO buffers (requires 16550 compatible UART).
  12. Set the Receive Buffer and Transmit Buffer to High.
  13. Select the COM Port Number. Click OK.

Installing the MICRbase Program

Please get the software for this install from Support before starting the installation process. Contact Support at 1-800-669-2509. You will also need to have a check available to scan for testing purposes.

 Installing the MICRbase Program
  1. Double-click MICRbase.exe.
  2. Click Configure.
  3. In the MICR Type box (Options) field, select Image RS232.
  4. Click COM Setup and select the following parameters: Interface type: RS232, Serial Port: select the COM port in Device Manager, Baud: 115200, Parity: None, Stop Bits: 1, Data Bits: 8
  5. Click Auto Detect RS232 Parameters.
  6. Click Test.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Comm Mode field, select 0 - Data Only.
  9. Select EMF Detect and Send Data After Error.
  10. Set the following parameters: Baud: 115200, Data Bits: 8, Stop bits: 1, and Parity: None.
  11. Click Download Configuration to MICR.
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click Communicate with MICR.
  14. Scan a check. Now you are ready to set up the configuration within your software.
