Divorce is difficult on the families it affects. But it doesn't have to be hard to manage those records.

Whose Family Does the Student Belong To?

Add the student to the record of the parent/guardian that the student lives with most of the time. (So if Bobby lives with Mom but sees Dad on weekends, he should be listed in Mom's family.) If custody is equally split, then the student can be listed in either family or on both records.

You can enter the other parent on the family's Relationship window.

How Do I Split Tuition Payments?

You may need to split tuition payments equally for each half of the year or based on a percentage. Follow the steps based on the family's situation.

Before you split payments, make sure the student is listed on the appropriate family record(s):

  • If each parent pays 50% of tuition, the student can be listed in either family or on both records.
  • If the parents pay a different percentage, the student must be listed on both family records.

To split tuition payments equally (50%)

If the student is only on one parent's record:

  1. Click Tuition & Fees, and locate the family record that the student is listed on.
  2. On the Billing Address window, enter the other parent's billing information.
  3. Select a Statements option for this parent.
  4. Add the Bill From and Bill To dates for this parent's half of the year. The other parent (the current family record) is billed outside of these dates.

    Useful Information

For example, if you're on Mom's family record, you'd add Dad's billing information.
If he pays August through December, you'd enter Bill From 08/01 and Bill To 12/31.
Mom would be billed outside of those dates, which would be 01/01 to 07/31.

If the student is listed on both family records:

  1. Click Tuition & Fees.
  2. Locate Mom's family record.
  3. On the Billing Address window, add the Bill From and To dates for Mom's half of the year.
  4. Locate Dad's family record.
  5. On the Billing Address window, add the Bill From and To dates for Dad's half of the year.

To split tuition payments based on different percentages
  1. Figure out the total tuition each parent needs to pay based on the percentage.
  2. Click Tuition & Fees.
  3. Locate Mom's family record.
  4. On the Rates/History/Keywds window, enter the total tuition Mom needs to pay.
  5. Locate Dad's family record.
  6. On the Rates/History/Keywds window, enter the total tuition Dad needs to pay.
