Problem


When starting PDS programs, this error displays: 

"Too many open files."


Products affected: All PDS Programs

Versions affected: Any

Solution


To increase performance, see the PDS System Requirements.

If the error persists, check and configure your Borland Database Engine (BDE) settings.

 To configure the BDE settings

The BDE is configured automatically during your PDS program installation. You can perform the following steps if there is a need to the manually configure the BDE.

Warning

Serious problems can occur if you modify the configuration settings incorrectly. Make sure you follow the steps carefully. This is not a program registry entry. For added protection, back up the Windows Registry before you edit it.

 To manually configure the BDE
  1. On your Windows Taskbar, click StartControl Panel.
  2. Select the drop-down list beside View by:, and select Large Icons.
  3. Locate and click BDE Administrator.
  4. On the Configuration tab, expand System, then click INIT.
  5. On the Definition tab, verify the following settings. (You may see a partial list of these.)

  6. On the toolbar, click Object, then Close.
